Ever since we heard that Google was killing off Google Reader, many of us have been scrambling to find a decent replacement. Many of us migrated over to Feedly. Including all the editors here at Android Headlines. While I like Feedly, it doesn’t seem to be as good as Google Reader was. At least to me. Google Reader’s funeral is July 1st, and Digg had announced a while ago that it was working a Google Reader replacement. Well today Digg has announced that their replacement is going live next week. Just days before Google Reader is gone for good.
Digg says that they have over 18,000 users that have already signed up to test and use their new service ahead of launch. And we know that there will be even more signing up once Google Reader is completely gone come July 1st. Digg, today, announced that June 26th the public beta will be released to “power users” and we can expect a mid-July release for a broader rollout once everything is running smoothly.
The downside? Well it looks like it’ll launch on Web and iOS together, but the Android app won’t be available for another 60 days after launch. It’s sad that even still with the huge market share that Android has, developers are choosing to develop for iOS before Android. But Digg has announced that in the first 50 days after launch there will be a ton of updates and new features. So we’ll all be here patiently waiting for Digg’s Reader to be available for us to checkout. In the meantime, we’ll continue using Feedly.
How many of you are anxiously awaiting to see what Digg can do with a Google Reader replacement? Let us know in the comments below.
