Glass to be Released at Google I/O 2014?

Google Glass is one of the most interesting pieces of technology we’ve seen in a long time. It’s like fusing your Android phone with your glasses. Pretty neat. Earlier this year, Google’s Eric Schmidt stated that Glass wouldn’t be available for consumer release until Sprint 2014. Even though we’ve been hoping that Google would find a way to get Glass available to consumers by the holiday season of 2013. At the right price, it’d definitely be a hot product for the holiday season.

Now according to a new report. It appears that Google is aiming to release Google Glass around Google I/O 2014. Which coincidentally is in the Spring. So if this does pan out, then Eric Schmidt was right. But given the way this year’s Google I/O went (a developers conference actually being a developers conference….shocking) we may not see the official release at I/O but rather around I/O. I’d like to see a separate event for Glass though, with fireworks and everything. I just hope they don’t follow Samsung’s Galaxy S4 event and do a broadway show to announce Glass.

Google Glass has been available to explorers for quite some time now and cost them about $1500. Now we know it’s not going to cost that much for consumers. In fact, Google has even confirmed that it’ll be much cheaper when the consumer release is upon us. We’ve seen many rumors of it costing about $300. That’s the price of the Nexus 4 right now. Currently the pricing is not confirmed, but we do know it will be under $1500. Which is something we can all look forward too.

Perhaps at Google I/O 2014, all attendees will go home with a pair of Google Glass? Now wouldn’t that be something awesome? Google’s been known to giveaway some great goodies to the attendees of I/O. This year, everyone got a Chromebook Pixel, last year they all got a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and a Nexus Q. Which isn’t bad for attending a conference which costs about a grand to attend.
