Motorola has finally announced the Moto X and let’s just say that the Internet is going a little crazy right now. Not only because the device is finally official but also because of the boatload of information that Motorola has for us this afternoon. We’ve touched on the personal aspect of the Moto X before, and it looks like this is not a gimmick for Motorola but a genuine new step in how they market and sell their smartphones. Color us impressed, it’s one thing to offer a device in different colors but, Motorola will soon be offering 16 color options, with engravings and wooden offerings coming Q4.
It won’t stop at the infamous MotoMaker service, either. In the future, Motorola will be looking straight at their customers for input for their next designs. As Engadget is reporting the company plans to hold Facebook polls and the like to enable users to vote for new customization options. We envisage something along the lines of a selection of hues and designs to go live across social media and whichever gets the most votes will be available to purchase for your beloved Moto X. This idea is not new, but it is unique for a smartphone and for one that Moto is hoping to appeal to everyone, we’re not surprised they’re going this route.
We’re sure that with Google owning Motorola Mobility that there might just be something to do with Google+, along with Twitter as well. It’s a neat idea and while it’s not going to impress everyone it’ll certainly do wonders for Motorola’s branding, which hasn’t exactly been at its strongest these past couple of years.
There’s no word yet on when this social interaction will be available but, with the advanced options of engravings and wood coming Q4, we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw something around that time. After all, something like this would make for a near perfect Holiday campaign. Can you say Rudolph Red?
