Samsung Exec: Galaxy Note III and Galaxy Gear Smartwatch to be Announced September 4th

It’s almost time for Samsung to unveil their new, highly anticipated devices for this fall. The Galaxy Note III is going to replace the Note II and up the game on devices like the LG Optimus G Pro. The Galaxy Gear smartwatch looks to bring wearable devices to Samsung’s Galaxy line of devices. The Galaxy Gear watch will also be announced before Apple’s rumored iWatch. We know this because Samsung’s marketing chief, Lee Young-hee, let slip in a conversation with Korea Times that the Note III and Gear smartwatch will be announced September 4th at IFA in Berlin, Germany. This was the rumored announcement date for these devices, and now we have it straight from Samsung.

Young-hee referred to the Galaxy Gear watch as a “wearable concept device” and said that it would not have a flexible display, as previously rumored. It will be a companion device for your smartphone and be targeted at other Galaxy devices, but will work with most devices on the market. She didn’t offer any more detail than that.

We do, however, get several looks at the screen from the Galaxy Note III courtesy of HD Blog, Sonny Dickson, and ETradeSupply. These images confirm that the display will measure 5.69-inches, putting to rest any discussion of a 6 inch or even a 6.3 inch screen.

While we don’t have specs on the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, the Galaxy Note III will have that 5.69 inch, 1080p Super AMOLED display and a 13 megapixel rear camera. It will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip or the octa-core Exynos 5420, depending on the market. It will also have 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage with a microSD slot. It will pack a 3200 mAh battery, be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and will have S Pen support too.

The Galaxy Note III should be a worthy successor to the Note II, and the Galaxy Gear watch continues the trend towards wearable tech and devices. The announcement is less than two weeks away. IFA officially kicks off on September 6th, with the Samsung announcement happening two days before that. We don’t have long to wait.
