The Moto X Developer Edition is now available. This is the version of the Moto X that many of you were awaiting. Well now it’s available. This is the Developer Edition of the Verizon Moto X. It’s more or less the same as the one you signed a 2-year contract for, except the bootloader can be unlocked much easier. You also don’t get a warranty, because it’s the developer edition.
The Developer Edition of the Moto X appears to only be available in the 32GB variant. Which I suppose is better than it being only available in the 16GB variant, right? It’s also not available with MotoMaker. Which is what we expected, since AT&T still has that exclusive. So it’s available in black and woven white as well as coming with a SIM card. At $650, before taxes, I doubt this will be very popular. But then again, Developer Editions are never super popular. But they are necessary when carriers like AT&T and Verizon refuse to allow us to unlock our bootloaders.
There’s a GSM version of the Moto X Developer Edition, which says it’ll work with AT&T and T-Mobile. However, at the time of writing this, it’s not available for ordering just yet. I expect that to go live very soon and make everyone happy. What’s interesting here is that the Developer Edition is actually more than the T-Mobile version, which is full price. You’d expect it to be the same price, wouldn’t you? Either way, if you want to do some developing on the Moto X and have $650 laying around, you can purchase yours through the link below.
