Google announced earlier this month that the next version of Android would be named after KitKat and be version 4.4. Which marks the first time Google has ever partnered with a company to promote their next version of Android. It’s been taking the world by storm. I’d love to see what the increase in KitKat sales are since this partnership was announced.
Nestle has been taking full advantage of this partnership, both on Facebook and Twitter. Which they’ve been getting questions from both Android fans and candy fans, which they’ve been acknowledging both. Yesterday, over on the KitKat Facebook page, they actually sort of confirmed that KitKat is coming in October. Nestle was responding to a comment about when Android 4.4 would be released, and Nestle’s KitKat account said that Android 4.4 KitKat will be available in October.
Now this is still something to question. Usually we see a new version of Android and a new Nexus in October, but it’s not available until November. So this could mean one of two things. Either Nestle thinks announcement and availability are the same thing, or Google is planning on announcing the Nexus 5/New Nexus 4 with Android 4.4 KitKat in the next couple of weeks and launch it in October. I’d put my money on the latter. Since every year a Nexus and new version of Android are announced in October but not available until November (or in the Verizon Galaxy Nexus case, months later).
This is pretty weird to be sourcing a Candy company’s Facebook page here. But there’s always room for firsts. We figure that Nestle and Hershey must be aware of Google’s plans, at least for KitKat maybe not the Nexus 5. Especially since both companies have been marketing the crap out of this since it the announcement. It’s actually a pretty great way to market their brand. Maybe this could help them launch some new variants of KitKat? That would be awesome.
So Android 4.4 coming in October. No real surprise there, right?
