It seems that Samsung and LG have fired the starter pistol when it comes to devices with flexible displays. Samsung beat LG to the punch though, even among all of these rumors concerning the LG G Flex, when they announced the Galaxy Round. The device isn’t anything out of the ordinary for Samsung right now, and looks more like a curved Galaxy Note 3 than it does anything else. What’s more, the device might not even be leaving South Korea.
The Galaxy Round features extremely similar specs to the Galaxy Note 3, if you need reminding, take a look below:
- 5.7-inch Full HD Super Flexible AMOLED display
- Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz
- 3GB of RAM
- 32GB internal storage (judging by the Galaxy Note 3, should be about 26GB free)
- Micro SD card slot, supporting up to an additional 64GB of space
- 13MP camera AF with Flash
- 2MP front-facing camera
- Android 4.3 – Jelly Bean
- WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE (Bluetooth Low Energy), USB 3.0, GPS+GLONASS, NFC
- Dimensions: 151.1 x 79.6 x 7.9mm
- Weight: 154g
- Battery: 2800mAh
- LTE 150/50m bps
The device features the same faux-leather backing that the Galaxy Note 3 has and is very much a Note 3 minus the S-Pen. All-in-all, the Galaxy Round is definitely more of Samsung testing the waters than it is them releasing a whole new product. However, as we head into 2014, we could see Samsung using this technology for more adventurous things. After all, Flexible OLED is still a very new technology, and one that has yet to prove itself.
UnderKG have managed to get their hands on a South Korean Galaxy Round and they did what every tech lover would do – they unboxed the thing. Unsurprisingly, there’s very little inside the box, or indeed inside of the device that is too surprising. You can take a look at the unboxing video below and let us know whether or not you would buy something like this in the comments below!
