We’ve been hearing a lot about LG’s first flexible OLED device, the G Flex for a little while now, we’ve seen renders of the device and unfortunately for LG, Samsung beat them to it with the Galaxy Round. That doesn’t mean LG is going to be waiting until 2014 to launch the G Flex however, as ETNews is reporting that the G Flex is to launch in November. Which would give Samsung a fair lead in this new sector of devices. Where the Galaxy Round is curved left-to-right across the center of the device, the G Flex looks set to be curved from top-to-bottom, giving it a slight curve throughout the device. It’s unsurprising that LG is going to be launching their new device next month after all, they don’t want to give Samsung all the limelight.
The 6-inch curved device is apparently set to go global, unlike the Galaxy Round which is all but destined to stay inside of South Korea. If anything, this shows that LG is ready to test the international waters for flexible displays, unlike Samsung.
Of more interest to Western Android fans however, will be the word that the LG Nexus 5 is indeed launching before the end of this month. ETNews, in the same lengthy article, has detailed that the “Nexus 5 developed by LG Electronics will be released through Google during this month,”. Perhaps it’s coming October 28th? An October release date is something we’ve been hearing about for some time and considering that Google released the Nexus 4 around this time last year, it’s not surprising that they’re going to be doing the same this year, as well.
ETNews has been right in the past when it comes to these sorts of things and we’re pretty confident in saying that a South Korean publication would have closer ties to LG than most others. If the G Flex really is going to be released internationally, it’ll be interesting to see if demand is any higher than Samsung’s Galaxy Round.
