Ever since Google “teamed up” with Motorola, changes were in the air – Google said that Motorola would be run as an independent company, and for the most part, or at least the part we can see, this has been a true statement. And while Google may be letting them run independently, the Google influence is certainly showing up in their latest line of phones, especially the Moto X, although the Motorola Droid series, the MAXX, Ultra, and Mini are receiving great reviews. The successful company does not sit back on its current triumphs, but continually improves and innovates, always working on the “next big thing!”
Our bloggers over in China at Weibo, via gforgames.com, have been leaking all kinds of news lately, and the latest reports tell us that Motorola is working a Droid Ultra replacement called the “Motorola Droid Quantum.” They have no other information at this time on the specifications or release date, but we will forward on anything we hear.
The one category where Motorola has no entries is the increasingly popular phablet size smartphone – there are many people (myself included) that really enjoy using a phablet size phone as our everyday driver. Others manufacturers have tried, but the Samsung Galaxy Note series still rules the category they created in 2011 with the introduction of the original Note. But many (myself included) love Motorola’s radios and their reception is second to none – can you imagine if those radios teamed up with a competitive phablet!
Well our tipster said that Motorola is working on a phablet of their own, dubbed, “Motorola Xplay,” and will feature a huge 6.3-inch screen, tying with the Samsung Mega 6.3 as one of the largest displays on a smartphone, narrowly beaten by Sony’s Xperia Z Ultra. While no other details are available, it makes sense for Motorola to enter the phablet market, and at 6.3-inches, it will be quite a phablet. We only hope that Motorola, never one to “over do” their specifications, will pack this phablet with a higher resolution display, 2-3GBs of RAM, 32GB internal storage, and a processor that will fly through its multitasking (hopefully) capabilities. And unlike many of the other phablets that do not sell, I hope that Motorola will include a Stylus built into the phone, like the Galaxy Note series.
So it looks like Google’s Motorola is hard at work creating their updated phones and working on a new phablet size as well. We would expect to see these new phones sometime in 2014 and as soon as we hear any more news about them, we will report back. What do you think about Motorola coming out with a phablet and would you be interested in such a device? Let us know in the comments or in Google+.
