Pantech is certainly not a household word, especially when you think of a smartphone, not to mention a Phablet with a built-in stylus, sporting LTE-Advanced, and one with a fingerprint sensor – but Pantech is set to release a Phablet into our midst on October 10. The picture above gives us a close-up of the fingerprint scanner and the invitation below confirms the launch date, and clearly shows where the fingerprint scanner is located, although it is covered by what appears to be an official wax seal:
Just in August we did a story on the rumor of the Pantech Vega and a follow-up story to its official announcement and leaks of the latest photos. It will be called the Vega Note, which is rather foretelling since it will be battling the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in the Asian countries, so do not expect it on the shores of the US any time soon, which is a shame since it has some high-end specifications:
- 5.9-inch FHD 1080p display
- Support for Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A)
- Stylus included
- Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU
- 2 GB of RAM
- Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS
At this point only South Korea and a few places in Russia have LTE-Advanced which can boasts 3 times the theoretical speed of a regular LTE network, jumping the maximum theoretical download speed from 100mbps all the way up to 300mbps. So far in the US only T-Mobile has released any timeframe on bringing it to their network, but I cannot image that AT&T and Verizon are not working on their own version. The internal specs are very similar to the Galaxy Note 3, even besting the screen size two-tenths of an inch.
The fingerprint sensor/scanner is found on the back like the HTC One Max that is to makes its arrival very shortly, but Pantech has theirs round like Apples, rather than squared off like the HTC One Max.
At this angle you can definitely see the stylus in its silo at the bottom of the phone, just like the Galaxy Note series. No details on what kind of software will be included to take advantaged of the stylus, but it is encouraging to finally see another phablet on the market that carries its own writing apparatus on itself.
More details should be forthcoming and we will get them to you as fast as we can. Would you like to see Pantech send us a US version, or do we have enough of a selection of phablets already! Let us know in the comments of on Google+.
