The Android Headlines Show is back on the air tonight! This week is all about the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat. Google announced them both last Thursday, October 31st. Since then, devices have been shipping and the KitKat source code has been pushed out to the AOSP. Developers are already diving in to the source code and building ROMs for us, too. The Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus, and even the Nexus S have KitKat ROMs available. We have so much to cover, I don’t know how we’re going to get through it all in an hour. Ok, let’s be honest; we won’t get through it all in an hour. Who am I trying to kid?
Here’s what we’re planning on talking about on the show this week:
News
Our only piece of non-Nexus 5/KitKat news. It’s pretty big, though. AT&T could be buying Vodafone next year.
Google officially announces the Nexus 5.
And the announce Android 4.4. KitKat too.
The Nexus 5 officially supports Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S. It will work just fine on AT&T’s network. Verizon is left out in the cold.
Nexus 5 Hardware
We compared the Nexus 5 to the Nexus 4.
As great of a phone as it is, there is still room for improvement in the Nexus 5.
Software and Apps
Hangouts is getting Google Voice integration in the beginning of 2014. Third-party Voice apps will stop working on May 15th, 2014.
Galaxy Nexus gets KitKat via a custom ROM. So does the Nexus S.
KitKat ROMs for the Nexus 4 are popping up, too.
