Here we have the Beauty – the Motorola Moto X that you can customize to suit yourself with colored front, back, and trim, and the Beast – the new Nexus 5 with all of its power specs and the pure experience of Android 4.4 KitKat. The specifications of the Moto X are far from the Nexus 5, and other 2013 flagships, but the Moto X, using Motorola’s own X8 optimization makes the device surprising fast and smooth – and as an added bonus, it runs Motoblur as a “skin,” but it is almost pure Android, so it does not hamper its performance.
They both have 2GB of RAM, the same amount of internal storage, no microSD slot on either, almost the same size battery, and they weight the same – as you can see, they have many things in common.
Specifications
Google Nexus 5
The just released the newest rendition of the pure Google experience, the Nexus 5 – based off of the popular LG G2, it has the specifications of a true flagship – Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-Core processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 2GB of RAM and a 5-inch Full HD Display. The most attractive item to the Nexus lovers is the Android 4.4 KitKat with no “skin” on whatsoever. Not only do you get the newest Android operating system, but you will continue to get the updates before anybody else, as well as all of the wonderful new features that Google put into their new Android 4.4 KitKat.
Motorola Moto X
The Moto X was one of our reviewer’s favorite phones – display and processor are below the norm for 2013, but with Motorola’s X8 configuration and a light touch of Motoblur, the Moto X just seems to work. The Moto X’s Touchless Control feature keeps the phone “listening” all of the time, just waiting for you to say,” OK Google Now” and give it a command. There is also a feature called Active Display, and rather than a simple notification light, your screen will light up and show you your notifications right on your display.
…And the Winner is…Nexus 5
Summary
As nice as the Moto X is, and it is a great phone – but specification wise, it just does not stack up to the Nexus 5. Both phones would make their respective target audience very happy, but we have to pick a winner, and the specs of the Nexus 5 are top-notch and it does have Android 4.4 KitKat, and that really puts it over the top. Let us know in the comments or on Google+ what you think about these two devices and which one you would rather use.
