Google Brings 10 new Chromecast Apps into the Play Store Including Vevo, Plex, Revision 3 and More

Over the weekend, many of us were wondering when we’d see more Chromecast apps, because Google was hosting their Chromecast Hackathon up in Mountain View. Well nothing was announced then, but now we’ve got 10 new apps for the Chromecast, making it a much more attractive $35 HDMI media streaming dongle. Previously we only had Google Play Music, Google Play Movies & TV, YouTube, Pandora, Hulu+, Netflix and HBO Go. And just like that we’ve doubled the number of apps available.

Google is still remaining mostly closed about 3rd party apps for the Chromecast. But at least we have a few more apps to use with our beloved Chromecast. Which includes Vevo, Rebull.TV, Songza, PostTV, Viki, Revision 3, BeyondPod, Plex, Avia, and RealPlayer Cloud. Some great apps in there, and one we were all looking very much forward into using on the Chromecast, Plex.

The Chromecast is a great stocking stuffer, in fact it was one of our holiday gift ideas last week. For just $35, you can get one for everyone. Or at least for every TV in the house. I actually just picked one up last week, and so far I’m loving it. I can’t wait to check out all of these apps and what other apps come to Chromecast. Hopefully we see stuff like Pocket Casts, WatchESPN, NFLMobile, and more come to Chromecast too. Or even Aereo. That would be pretty awesome too. This would make it easier for many people to get rid of their cable or satellite and just stick with the Chromecast. I still feel that Chromecast is a much better option than Google TV is at this point. But that could all change with the Nexus TV rumors, if they are true.

How many of you out there are excited to see all these apps now available for the Chromecast? How many of you are going to rush home and start using these apps on the Chromecast tonight? Let us know in the comments below.
