LG G Flex Reaches Singapore and Hong Kong This Month

LG and Samsung are both racing to make flexible displays a mainstream reality. Flexible screens are extremely durable, some say indestructible, and can lead to all kinds of crazy innovative designs. For now, only the screens are flexible, not the entire phone, but the potential is there. Both Samsung and LG have announced phones with curved screens, but LG is the first to bring one to a wide audience.

LG announced late last month that the G Flex smartphone, which up until now has only been available in South Korea, would expand to other countries in December. Now, they are making good on that promise with availability in Singapore and Hong Kong. LG says this is the beginning of a “global rollout.”

QUOTE::::::: Customers in Singapore will be able to place their pre-orders for LG G Flex beginning December 8. In Hong Kong, the device goes on sale starting December 13 and will be available through major carriers and leading electronics retailers.

The G Flex curves vertically, instead of horizontally as Samsung’s Galaxy Round does. The phone features a large, 6-inch 720p curved display, which LG claims is the largest of its type in the world, which isn’t really surprising, since only two curved screens exist at the moment.

The G Flex includes a few other tricks, too, like the self-healing back cover, which can render small scratches and scuffs invisible, and the custom designed battery. The G Flex battery was designed using a stepped approach which allows the battery to curve with the body of the device.

The G Flex follows most of the design set by the LG G2, their newest flagship device, including the rear-mounted volume and power buttons. Additional specs include a quad-core 2.26GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera, and a 2.1MP front camera.

It features a LG is clearly betting big on flexible screens, with rumors of a G Flex 2 already hitting the wire. If consumers take to the G Flex and it’s a retail success, we can be sure LG will continue to push the design.

Look for the G Flex to launch in additional markets early next year.
