Last year, LG took their first stab at the Phablet market with their LG Optimus G Pro. It was actually a pretty popular device, even though it was only available on AT&T here in the US. It sold over a million units in Korea alone. It was also one of my favorite phablets of the year. I really liked how LG integrated the notification LED into the physical home button on the device. Although a lot of Samsung fans thought that it was a “poor mans Galaxy Note 2”. And they were kind of right. LG’s software is pretty similar to Samsung’s, but I’d say LG’s isn’t as heavy as Samsung’s is. Otherwise, the specs were pretty much the same, aside from the 1080p display on the Optimus G Pro, and the Snapdragon 600.
That leads us to the LG G Pro 2. Which LG has already confirmed the name and the fact that it’s coming in February, probably announced at Mobile World Congress next month. We’ve heard all kinds of rumors about what the LG G Pro 2 will have under the hood. Considering the Optimus G Pro had a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, 2GB of RAM, Snapdragon 600, 13MP camera on the back, 2MP shooter on the front and a 3140mAh battery. I’d expect something along the lines of a 5.7-inch 2560×1440 resolution IPS display, 3GB of RAM, Snapdragon 800 or 805 processor, 13 or 16MP shooter on the back and a 5MP on the front with a nice 3300 or 3500mAh battery inside. Now those aren’t confirmed specs or anything, that’s just what I’m thinking we’ll see along withsome rumors we’ve seen of the G Pro 2 already. Maybe we’ll see the hardware buttons come back to the side of the device instead of being on the back?
Now onto software. I’d expect the LG G Pro 2 to have all the features that the G2 and the G Pad 8.3 have, like QSlide, and Knock On and many others. But what else might we see on the G Pro 2? Perhaps some improvements to QSlide and SlideAside? Hopefully we’ll see more features that will take advantage of the larger screen. My favorite feature from the LG G2 was the KnockOn. Which was a genius feature, in my opinion. I never really had to use the power or volume buttons on the back of the G2, which was quite nice since I needed to get used to them being on the back instead of the side.
