AOKP a long running custom ROM that is incredibly popular. The AOKP team is smaller than the powers behind CyanogenMod, but they still manage to support a ton of devices. We can add another smartphone to the list of devices that have official support, as official nightly builds of AOKP are available now from the AOKP.co website.
Now, I know some of you are thinking that AOKP nightly builds for the LG G2 have been available since the 14th of January, but yesterday was the first day that they were available on the AOKP site. All four of the U.S. variants of the G2 are supported, as well as the international GSM version of the device. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon users are covered. We’re still waiting on official builds for the Latin American and Canadian versions of the device. You can find all of the supported devices on the AOKP device page right here.
These early KitKat builds are still missing some features that are available on Jelly Bean versions of AOKP. Lockscreen targets, Ribbons, and the battery bar in the Navigation bar Settings are still missing. ROM Control has gotten a make-over though, and now has a hamburger-style Holo layout. The G2 knock-knock feature kind of works. You can double-tap to wake the phone up, but sometimes you have to tap the screen more than twice in order for it do what it’s supposed to. You can even access ROM Control through an icon in the app drawer now, and you can easily hide that icon if you don’t want it to persist in the app drawer.
I’ve been running AOKP on my Nexus devices for awhile now. I first flashed AOKP on my Verizon Galaxy Nexus, and I’m currently running the most recent KitKat nightly on my Nexus 4. AOKP is by far my favorite custom ROM, and I’m excited that LG G2 owners can now get in on the action. Keep in mind that these are early, nightly builds. There are going to be bugs and kinks that you will encounter. Any time you tinker with your device, you take full responsibility for any issues and for all the fun.
