Back in 2013, the LG G2 was announced, and it was a powerhouse. Well it actually still is. The only downside was it launched with Android 4.2.2. That’s not too bad because Android 4.3 doesn’t have a whole lot of new features that most users would notice. But now that Android 4.4 is out, and has been for a couple of months now, what about KitKat on the LG G2? Well we’ve already seen it rolling out to Korean users. So we are sure it’s coming soon, after certification and such from the carriers here in the US.
Luckily, there was an English speaking citizen in Korea that got the update on their G2, who was nice enough to do a screencast of the update for us all to take a look at. As expected – since LG does have a pretty heavy skin on their devices – there’s not a whole lot of visual changes. Although the status bar is now white and the notification shade is a bit less ugly, but still pretty busy for Android purists such as myself. But one of the features I was really hoping would come to the G2 is Immersive Mode, which did make its way to the G2. And it’s going to look gorgeous on that 5.2-inch IPS display on the LG G2. Users can also now select a default messaging app, and there are also some improvements to the camera speed. Which the camera was already pretty fast.
It’s nice to see that more OEMs are working to get KitKat out to their devices sooner. About a year ago, we were still seeing devices with Android 4.1, and Android 4.2 had been out for a few months. I don’t even remember any devices getting updated to Android 4.2. So this is definitely a good thing. And it should get better within the next year or so thanks to Google.
