Leak: Possible Sony Xperia Z1 Successor with Android 4.3, Slimmer Bezels, and 5.2-inch Display

A new Sony phone has leaked out this morning, over on XDA’s forums. This phone has the model number D6503, and it appears to be a refresh of the Xperia Z1. According to XDA Forums user iRimas, this is the Xperia D6503, and features a 5.2-inch display, with a new UI on board and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box. Apparently, the user is stating that the device is pretty unusable an the UI is always crashing. So it appears to be a work in progrss.

Based on the model number, it appears that this is a successor to the Xperia ZL and not the Xperia Z1. This model number has actually surfaced before in Sony’s device database last month. But the camera on the back does state that it’s a 20.7MP 1/2.3″ camera, which is found on the Xperia Z1, Z1s and Z1 Compact. Which is a great camera. There are some other differences between this device and the Xperia Z1. Like the three large speaker-like grilles on the bottom, the micro USB slot and SIM card try are on the left side, with the microSD card slot is on the right side. There’s also the normal power, volume rocker and shutter buttons on the right side.

We heard earlier that the Xperia Z2 is going to feature a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, with a 20.7MP camera, and a 3700mAh battery. So this could possibly be the Xperia Z2, but we have heard that the Xperia Z2 would be featuring Android 4.4 – KitKat, so possibly not. This device is supposedly going to be announced at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona.

It’s interesting to hear that there’s a new UI on the Xperia Z2, so we may be in store for a brand new user interface at Mobile World Congress. Which isn’t surprising, as Sony has used relatively the same skin for quite some time, even though it is one of my favorite skins on a mobile device right now. How many of you are excited for the Sony Xperia Z2? What do you think of this device?
