Over the last few months, we have heard plenty of rumors regarding an Android powered smartphone manufactured by the Finnish phone maker Nokia. From rumors to image leaks, the handset has been dangled in front of our faces over and over, as if Microsoft was playing some sick game to taunt us with the likes of something we’ve always wanted, but may never see since they bought out Nokia’s hardware division. Still, image leaks and more rumors started to surface as we transitioned into the new year, and as of today the newest leaks and rumors are here to support the idea that Nokias Android powered handset could actually see the light of day. These newest leaks are regarding the supposed specs of the yet unannounced device, which actually gives us an idea of what to expect if the phone does get released.
These newest leaks and rumors that talk about the specs of the Nokia Normandy come out of a vietnamese website called thegiodidong.com, where the website apparently already has the normandy displayed and listed as an upcoming handset for purchase. The listing shows off some of it’s alleged specs, and it is listed as the “Normandy”, although @evleaks who has been mostly responsible for providing us with the first image leaks of the device, has also stated on his twitter account that the device might actually be called the Nokia X, making the Normandy a possible codename. According to thegiodidong.com, the Normandy will carry a 4 inch display that has a low resolution of 854 x 480. This isn’t surprising since we also heard rumors that the device would be aimed at emerging markets, which would eliminate pretty much any possibility that this would come with high end hardware due to the high nature of the cost of those parts. Besides the display, the website also lists that the phone will have 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage space, with an expandable microSD card slot that allows for up to an extra 32GB of storage. The RAM might have been a problem, but the phone is also listed as coming pre-loaded with Androids latest version of the OS, Android KitKat, which Google has said will work on phones with lower memory.
Rounding out the specs are a 5MP rear camera and a 1GHz dual-core snapdragon 200 processor. So far, there is no way to legitimize the officiality of any information about the Normandy on the vietnamese website, but we could end up hearing something about it come the first day of MWC, when Nokia has scheduled a press event to be held, although we know nothing of the event as of this time. @evleaks has proven to be a trusted source over and over in the past, so the Normandy more than likely exists, what remains to be discovered is if these specs are indeed what to expect from the handset if it appears. Interestingly enough, when we hit the link to the source page, we get a “404 error” message, stating that the page does not exist. So it looks as though the listing might have been pulled. Which makes us wonder if any of the spec rumors were true. Perhaps someone was even a little too hasty with listing the device on the webpage. Time will tell.
