LG Announces the Lifeband Touch, Wearable Fitness Tracker for Android

The rumors concerning LG’s entrance into the wearable business haven’t been exactly quiet. Just before Christmas we had heard rumors concerning two brands of wearable technology that LG was possibly saving for MWC 2014 but, it looks like they’ve come along for the ride to CES 2014, the G Arch and the G Health, respectively. The G Health may well have become the LG Lifeband Touch, which is a literal name if nothing else. The wearable will obviously be focused to fitness use and will work on any Android device as well as iOS. Normally, these sort of devices have a requirement when it comes to Android version but, there’s no word on that just yet. This year’s CES is certainly going to be big for wearable technology, with both Pebble and Intel promising big things.

You’re probably wondering just what LG’s Lifeband Touch will be offering those already invested in a Jawbone Up or Fitbit and well, so far we don’t know of anything it’ll do any better. However, we do know that you’ll be able to control your music from it, track steps, as well as calorie consumption which will more than likely need some sort of user input to deliver accurate results. No matter though, as the device could very well offer Android users a better integrated solution than the Fitbit and the Up. As the device has just been announced in Korean, there’s little to go on right now.

A few things are up in the air right now but, these will be cleared up as CES 2014 really gets under way and more details will come floating back from the show floor. One such detail missing is how much this guy is going to cost when it makes its way to store shelves. The promise of wearable technology is mostly fulfilled with affordable pricing and as such, LG will do well to study the market they’re entering. Price such a device too high and they’ll be left with very low adoption figures indeed however, if it’s priced well then it could do well in the booming wearable arena. We’ll share more details as soon as we have them!
