Long gone are the days were we could say an upcoming flagship phone was going to be 720p, and that is not a bad thing at all. As technology improves, prices decrease and what was once high-end is now available to the budget smartphone user. This trend is a very good one to be on, as it allows for decent features and a good user experience at a good price. The Android giant Samsung seems to be following this path with their upcoming mid-range device, the SM-S780L. While still unannounced, this device is all but confirmed as the User Agent Profile is available on Samsung’s website. From it, we see that it is running Android, has a 720 x 1280 display of unknown size, and uses dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac. The phone is expected to be released at least first by LG U+, South Korea’s third largest carrier. However, as LG U+ only uses CDMA and LTE services, and the SM-S780L also has W-CDMA and GSM compatibility, it is a logical assumption that the device could reach international markets very soon after. The logical place for Samsung to release this device would be next month, either at or just before MWC 2014, where they may also be announcing the Galaxy S5 flagship, or the Galaxy Note 3 Neo.
Hopefully this phone provides a good user experience at a decent cost. Since we only know the screen resolution for a fact, any thoughts we may swing around would not be much use to anyone. Regardless, I would like to see Samsung try to compete with Motorola and release a phone that is around the price of the Moto G. A quality, low-cost phone would definitely bring more users to Samsung, especially since they are one of the few manufacturers that are still ‘expandable memory friendly’. I still love expandable memory, and wish that my Nexus 5 had it. If Samsung could release a moderately powerful phone with decent internals and expandable memory for no more than say, $250 (and that’s even pushing it), then I really think it could be a game changer. What do you think? Do you think the SM-S780L could be this phone? Or do you have other predictions for it? Let us know in the comments!
