Samsung Shares their CES 2014 Plans – Includes Focusing on Wearables and other 'Smart' Technologies

CES is just a few days away. It officially kicks off next Tuesday, but all the announcements start as soon as this weekend. Samsung has already announced the Galaxy Camera 2 ahead of CES. Now, Samsung has announced via their own blog what they plan to show off at CES this year. We already know they are going to have a huge booth, which they have every year. In fact, we often call it “Samsung City” at CES. The blog post from Samsung doesn’t mention anything in particular they do drop some pretty big hints. That Samsung could have a few surprises for us.

“Three months ago at IFA 2013, Samsung’s latest wearable device, Galaxy Gear, was unveiled. Also, Samsung’s smart home, a home consisted of smart products that allow users to control with their smart phones via apps, was demonstrated as a concept in Berlin. The wearable device market is on the rise and the concept of ‘smart home’ has started to gain ground. Hence, at this CES, maybe we can expect some innovative products that we had imagined to use in the future.”

This kind of points at a Galaxy Gear 2 coming at CES, but it also points at other devices like fitness trackers like a Fitbit, and many other wearables. I’ve been saying for the past month or so that I think CES is going to be full of Smartwatches and other types of wearables, and not much in terms of phones and tablets. And so far it’s looking like I was right.

Samsung’s Galaxy Gear has been rumored to get a refresh at CES, which would be kinda soon since it was only announced 3 months ago. But then again, it could mean that Samsung has realized their mistakes with the original one and have decided to fix those hardware problems and launch the next version. Since wearables are still very new, that could entirely be the reason.

Nonetheless, we’ll be there to see what Samsung has to show off at CES.
