Most people may not be familiar with Xiaomi when it comes to smartphones, but the Beijing based manufacturer has been making waves in its home market with the devices they have been putting out. Even Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak thinks that Xiamoi puts out some amazing phones. On a recent trip to Xiaomi’s headquarters in China, Where he had arrived last Firday to promote the four year old smartphone company, The Woz engaged in a semi public tech chat, where Hugo Barra, Ex Googler and Android Executive, now VP of Xiamoi had reported that Wozniak was using a brand new Xiaomi Mi-3 and that he was rather fond of the device. If someone like Wozniak can vouch for a company like Xiaomi, perhaps it’s time we saw some Xiaomi devices hit U.S. shores.
Reports from TechinAsia state that Wozniak told reporters that Xiaomi makes excellent products and that they are good enough to break into the American market. Although there are plenty that do not feel the same way, we would have to agree that Xaiomi has been making some pretty amazing devices as of late. If it wasn’t enough that they make great phones, the company also has the wealth and resources to do well here, as the Xiaomi’s chairman and Co-Founder Lei Jun is on China’s list of over 100 billionaires. Xiaomi ranks as one of the best smartphone manufacturers in China, among other huge top brands in the region like Huawei, however we have still yet to see one of their devices sold here. Xiaomi is also known for developing and putting out the popular MIUI ROM that you might see on many smartphones, which is also present on some of the phones they make.
Whether Xiaomi will make a push to enter the U.S. market was never mentioned, although we hope to someday see Xiaomi devices available as a choice when going to purchase our next smartphone. Even having the ability to buy them here unlocked would be better than not all. It seems so far that Xiaomi is good enough for Wozniak, and it makes us wonder if they would be good enough for us too. Would you use a Xiaomi device if it were available to you? Let us know what you think about Xaiomi in the comments.
