Sony seems driven to push its attachable lens-style camera series the QX10 and QX100 into the minds and hands of owners of their latest smartphone devices. In an innovative move, Sony had launched a camera lens attachment case for their ‘it’s-a-phablet-and-it’s-a-tablet’ Sony Xperia Z Ultra which would ease the attachments of the QX10/QX100 lens-style camera series. In a similar move, Sony has now released a case for the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. The camera case for the Xperia Z1 Compact carries the nomenclature SPA-ACX4 and is designed to snap onto the back of the Z1. All the while, the case gives easy access to the power button, the volume rocker and the other ports of the smartphone, while also providing a simple provision of attaching the QX10/QX100 lens-style camera to the back of the smartphone. The case will add 18 grams in weight to your Xperia Z1.
The SPA-ACX4 case would definitely come in handy if you lug around the QX10/QX100 lens-style cameras as well. But if you have no intention of getting into the fad of lens-style cameras and feel the shooter of your Z1 is adequate for your photography needs (or lack thereof), then you should definitely overlook this case. Aesthetically speaking, without the camera the case looks somewhat incomplete, especially because of the circular patch smack dab in the middle of it- which also doubles as the attachment point for the lens-style cameras.
However, if you’re getting too excited, do know that the case is currently available only in Sony’s home-base Japan. The SPA-ACX4 camera attachment case can be bought from the Sony Store across Japan for a relatively low-cost of 2,980 Japanese Yen (which is approximately £17, €21 or $29 depending on the existing conversion rates). As of yet there is no official word whether the SPA-ACX4 case would be getting a global release anytime soon.
