Samsung have their Unpacked 5 event scheduled for Monday 24th at this year’s Mobile World Congress and while the announcement of the Galaxy S5 is pretty much a given at this point, we’re also looking forward to seeing what else Samsung have to offer us when it comes to the Galaxy Gear. We’ve been hearing for a long time that Samsung wasn’t exactly pleased with the original Galaxy Gear and so a second Galaxy Gear was said to be coming soon. Now, we’re hearing out of Korea that Samsung might be readying something called the Galaxy Gear Fit. A slimmed down, lighter version of the Gear that might not be as expensive and also fit in better with people’s lifestyles.
However, we’re not looking at your traditional smartwatch here, instead the Fit is supposed to be a competitor to the Nike Fuelband and the Jawbone Up devices that have been on shelves for quite some time. There’s something to be said of these devices, as wearable fitness has really taken off in the last couple of years. The Gear was pretty decent at tracking your steps and keeping an eye on your activities, but a dedicated device would do quite a bit more for Samsung’s brand image. Not only that, but these devices are more likely to be picked up by the average consumers out there. There’s something to be said for these types of devices and we’re sure that Samsung is going to be linking them heavily to their upcoming Galaxy S5 and previous Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy Gear Fit is apparently not going to feature a camera, which would make a lot of sense and also help Samsung to keep the price down for consumers that didn’t want to spend the full amount on the original Gear.
The Korean giant’s upcoming Unpacked 5 event is only a few days away now, so keep it locked to Android Headlines for all the latest on Samsung’s next big thing.
