With the Mobile World Congress just around the corner, the leaks are sure coming in fast. With this amount of excitement in the air, we would definitely be bringing you more and juicier tid-bits. The Huawei MediaPad X1 has been the source of many leaks in the recent. However, for the present we have confirmation and pictures pertaining to Huawei’s latest tablet device which the Chinese manufacturer hopes to be a challenger against one of the titans in the 7 inch tablet device category – the ASUS made Google Nexus 7. The Huawei MediaPad X1 is expected to be unveiled at the MWC next week alongside Huawei’s monstrous Smartwatch or wearable device.
The MediaPad X1 – in appearance – looks to be a definitely beautiful and well-made device. The leaked pictures show us a 7 inch tablet device with very narrow bezels. The speaker grill on the front points to the tablet offering calling features as well. However since there is no clear indication of a secondary speaker at the back of the device, we would keep our skepticism intact and wait for Huawei to officially unveil the device.
In terms of specifications, the MediaPad X1 sports a 7 inch screen with a 1200 X 1920 pixels resolution, a Huawei-made quadcore processor clocked in at 1.6 GHz, an ample 2 GB of RAM. The primary snapper on the device boasts of 13 mega pixels (MP) however how the final photograph compares to other smartphones and tablet still needs to be seen. A 5 MP front-facing camera is offered to take care of the occasional selfie as well as the inevitable video calls. The slate is supposed to come pre-loaded with the older iteration of Android – 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and there is no confirmation whether it will be receiving the bump up to Android 4.4 Kit Kat any time soon. The device is also rumored to have 4G capabilities.
If the screen size and whatever features we know about so far, evidence that Huawei plans to have a go at the throne of the Google Nexus 7. However, the addition of calling facilities may work very well in emerging market – especially in India and China – however it needs to be seen how users in the US and Europe would respond to this added functionality.
