AT&T seems to be the only one changing their plans to be more competitive with T-Mobile, which was part of T-Mobile’s strategy, so it’s nice to see. Yesterday, T-Mobile announced they were doubling the data allowance on their entry level plans, while quietly stating that they are upping the price of their unlimited data plan from $70-80 per month. Which is still a great deal, mostly because you get unlimited data. And now, AT&T has announced that they are slashing $15 off their Mobile Share Value plan.
Basically what this means is that if you have one phone, we’re looking at $65 per month for 2GB of data, unlimited calls, texts and 50GB of cloud storage as well as free international messaging. Adding a second line brings that up to $90. This is comparable to what you’d get from an MVNO like Aio, or Straight Talk. However Straight Talk throttles you after about 2.5GB instead of charging you extra or cutting you off. It’s actually a really good deal, and better than you’d find on Verizon, by a long shot. If you don’t get good service from T-Mobile or Sprint, AT&T is probably the best choice, especially with these new plans.
Additionally, AT&T has stated that these changes are for new and existing customers. It also doesn’t matter how you got your phone, whether you bought it unlocked or from AT&T Next, you can still take advantage of this new plan from AT&T, well not new but cheaper plan. These changes will be going into effect Tomorrow, March 9th, 2014.
Many people ask me why I love T-Mobile so much, and this is one of the big reasons. They are forcing competition in the wireless space. Before Legere took over as CEO, AT&T, Verizon and even Sprint’s plans were much higher. Now they’ve all come down at least a bit. Even Verizon, which is kind of surprising. This kind of back-and-forth competition between the carriers is something that benefits us all, especially when prices keep dropping. Everyone agrees with me right?
