Tumbling financial numbers at HTC have apparently made them realize the potential sales they were losing out in the mid-range devices segment – a segment which HTC had been obvious in avoiding for the most of last year. In a corrective move, at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress, HTC had announced two mid-range smartphones – the HTC Desire 816 and the HTC Desire 610.
Another mid-range device from HTC has been announced, this time specifically for the Chinese market. The HTC Desire 310 is unique for the fact that it is the first smartphone from the Taiwanese manufacturer which is powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor, instead of the regular Qualcomm processors. MediaTek’s processors are found in lower cost smartphone devices by local players including Micromax and Lava Mobiles. However a big brand name such as HTC using MediaTek processors in its offerings is a first for the industry.
In terms of specs, the HTC Desire 310 sports a 4.5 inch display with a FWVGA resolution (which translates to 854 x 480 pixels), the CPU (as we mentioned earlier) is a quadcore MediaTek MT6582M SoC clocked at 1.3 GHz, with 512 MB of RAM. Internal storage is 4 GB, which can be expanded up to 32 GB using the available MicroSD slot. In terms of snappers, the device has a 5 mega pixels (MP) rear camera capable of 1080 p full-HD video recording. A 3 MP front facing camera is present for the occasional selfie and the inevitable video calls; however the front facing camera can only record VGA videos.
The HTC Desire 310 has dual SIM cards, with one SIM card offering WCDMA or 3G connectivity, while the second SIM will only have regular 2G GPRS in terms of data connectivity. The device will be running the older iteration of Android with version 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and there is no information as of yet whether the device would see an upgrade to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat iteration. Pricing details of the Desire 310 are unavailable as of yet and neither is there any suggestion that this device would hit western shores. Either ways, we are not too dazzled by the HTC Desire 310 though we would like your views on this midrange offering from HTC. Do let us know in the comments below.
