Huawei, the popular world-wide manufacturer, wants to change up the cell phone design game. Huawei recognizes that many cell phones are still made out of plastic material. When reviewing phones, it is often very common to see that design and overall feel of the device is something that people want to know about. If the device is too slippery, it’ll fall out of your hand and break. A lot of manufacturers have used plastic in the design of their devices, and many people have harped on the device because the plastic can feel cheap.
Huawei aims to fix the design of their future devices. According to an interview that they did with Trusted Reviews, Huawei is looking into using different materials for their future phones. Some of the materials that Huawei wants to use are ceramic and metal. Huawei wants to improve the design of their products so that they will appeal to more people.
At MWC in Barcelona, Huawei announced the new Ascend G6. The G6 features a metallic edge and a rubberized plastic back. I suppose we’ll have to wait until later this year to see some of Huawei’s new metal and ceramic devices. We already know that Huawei wants to become more of a household name. They have already pushed their way into a lot of prepaid carriers here in the US, but they still have a ways to go before they grab hold of people’s attention with major carriers. Perhaps some redesigned materials on Huawei’s phones will make it easier for consumers to purchase these devices here in the states. It is known that a lot of consumers want their device to look nice and sleek because the device is something that is used constantly.
We’ll just have to see what Huawei ends up doing with their design. I, for one, am extremely interested in seeing more ceramic phones on the market. When using new materials for cell phone design, a lot of testing and research is required. New materials need to be able to hold up to the consumers everyday activities. For example, when Motorola was experimenting with wood backs, they needed to make sure that it didn’t interfere with the antenna in the device. Huawei will need to be doing a lot of tests over the next year so that they can get a functional and good looking device out to consumers. What material do you want to see being used in a flagship?
