Late last night – for those of us here in the US – Samsung announced the Galaxy K Zoom over in Singapore. It’s basically the successor to the Galaxy S4 Zoom, except it’s not technically in the Galaxy S5’s family. I have to say though, it actually looks really nice with that same textured back that the Galaxy S5 has. It’s basically a 4.8-inch smartphone with a 20MP camera on the back and 10x optical zoom. It appears that the lens doesn’t stick out as much as the Galaxy S4 Zoom did. Samsung is really banking on these Android cameras as of late. They started out with the Galaxy Camera in 2012, then added the Galaxy S4 Zoom, then the Galaxy NX Camera which was a mirrorless camera with removable lenses, then they followed up the Galaxy Camera 2 and now the Galaxy K Zoom.
With the Galaxy K Zoom it’s more about the camera than the display, processor, or even battery life. But we are looking at a 4.8-inch 1280×720 resolution Super AMOLED Display, 2430mAh battery, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage with a SD card slot, Wi-Fi: 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4+5GHz, HT40, Bluetooth®: 4.0 BLE, USB: USB 2.0, NFC, A-GPS + GLONASS. As far as the cameras go were looking at; Main (Rear): 20.7 Mega pixel 1/2.3 BSI CMOS Sensor, 10x Optical Zoom, OIS, 24-240mm, F3.1-6.3; AF Assist LED, Sub(Front): 2.0 Mega pixel. SO: Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, Continuous Shot: 3fps MAX with AF, Format: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WBMP, BMP, AGIF, Xenon Flash, SMART Mode, Expert Mode(P/M), My Mode.
Now as far as networks and bands go, the Galaxy K Zoom supports; Cat4, HSPA+ 42Mbps, LTE 800/850/900/1800/2100/2600, HSPA+ 850/900/1900/2100, EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900. It also features a hexacore processor which is a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and a 1.7GHz dual-core processor. Setup similar to the Exynos Octacore processor Samsung has. It’s also running on Android 4.4 KitKat, for those that care about that type of thing.
