According to Evleaks, again, it looks like Android Silver will begin replacing the Nexus line in early 2015. February to be exact. Which will be interesting since Google usually has an event in the fall for a new version of Android along with an event around Google I/O time. We’ve never really had one around January or February, at least not recently. This goes along with Evleaks tweet from yesterday informing us that there is no Nexus 6 this year. And that it’s replacing the Nexus line. What we’ve learned from various other sources over the past month or so, about Android Silver is that it’s basically the Nexus program on steroids. Google is looking to give us premium hardware and premium support. It’s basically going to be similar to the Google Play Edition devices that are on the Google Play Store now, but hopefully they’ll be a bit cheaper in price. Obviously, some of the promises here are speedy updates, and less bloatware – leaving just Google’s bloatware.
Obviously, there’s plenty of unanswered questions here. But at this point, this is all we know about Android Silver. And as always, as soon as we learn more we’ll be sure to let everyone know. I know a lot of people aren’t too happy with the Android Silver program so far, but I think it’ll be great for Google and Android in general. I also don’t see them getting rid of the Nexus program altogether. They may just roll it into Android Silver. Because Google does need something to show off new software on, and something for developers to use to test apps and such. Which was really what the Nexus line was for. Only recently did it start selling for crazy low prices, which made everyone fall in love with them.
So Android Silver in February 2015. How many of you are excited? Let us know in the comments below.
