ASUS and AT&T Reportedly working on Padfone X2 already with a Snapdragon 810

While the Padfone X was announced for AT&T back at CES, it didn’t get a release date until this week. Many of us were surprised to see the Padfone hit a US carrier, but also excited, because it’s a pretty cool concept. Basically it’s sold as one device, but it’s a phone and a tablet, and your phone docks into the back of the tablet. The tablet gets all it’s power from the phone. Essentially the tablet is just a shell with a big battery and big display. We didn’t think carriers would bite on the ASUS Padfone’s because well they want to charge you for two devices, not one that acts as two. Because, well we know that the carriers are greedy over here. So it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the Padfone X.

It’s rumored that the two are already working on the next Padfone X, which would be the Padfone X2. It’s codenamed Unicorn and expected to feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, which means it’s not coming out anytime soon. So those looking to buy the Padfone X need not worry just yet. It’s also supposed to be bumped to a 10-inch tablet, from the current 9-inch. And that’s about all we know so far on the ASUS Padfone X2. So far it sounds like a pretty decent upgrade from the Padfone X. Hopefully the Padfone X does well on AT&T so that we see more concepts like that make their way over here.

So far it sounds like great things for the Padfone X2, and I can’t wait for that one to be announced. However, it does sound like another exclusive, which is going to suck. Especially for those looking to grab a Padfone and are not on AT&T. How many of you are excited for the Padfone X2?
