ASUS PadFone S Coming in July, Identical to the PadFone X but for International Markets

Asus already announced the PadFone X a few months ago. AT&T announced that they’d be carrying it all the way back in January. The smartphone portion has a 5-inch, 1080p display and runs on a quad-core, 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 800 chipset. The phone has a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front facing shooter, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 2,300 mAh battery. The tablet portion has an 8.9-inch display with a 1200 x 1920 resolution and adds an extra 4,990 mAh battery to the mix. The tablet doesn’t do much without the phone docked in it, but it does have its own 1-megapixel front camera and dual speakers built into it.

Asus is now preparing to release the PadFone X on the rest of the world. According to a report from Taiwan, it’s going to be called the PadFone S. It’s supposed to be available in international markets starting in July. It’s pretty much identical to the PadFone X, from the display size to the processor to the cameras. The only difference should be the radios due to the different cellular networks in different parts of the globe.

AT&T still hasn’t dropped the PadFone X on us. Maybe the PadFone S will beat it to market. Outside of the Nexus 7, Asus doesn’t have a large device presence here in the U.S. This could contribute to AT&T’s slow release of the PadFone X. There is an AT&T PadFone X event scheduled for today at 5pm EST so we may finally see the release of this device in the U.S.

If you live outside the U.S. and you’ve been waiting to get the PadFone X, the PadFone S could be your answer. It’s supposed to be announced at Computex 2014. Computex is a tech conference in Taipei. This year it’s going to be held from June 2nd to June 7th. The tech expo is one of the largest and longest running computer and technologies shows in the world. The expo has officially been in existence since 1981 and has been known as Computex since 1984. That means Asus should be unveiling the PadFone S sometime next week.
