ASUS has announced a brand new pair of Chromebooks that are pretty solid devices. The first is the 12-inch C200 and the second is the 13-inch C300. These new Chromebooks are running on Intel’s new Bay Trail-M processors. According to ASUS, these Chromebooks will get you an incredible 11 hours of battery life under what they call ‘typical use’. Those numbers are probably not quite accurate to real-world usage but even if you only get 9-10 hours of battery life out of them, that’s pretty stinking good.
The C300 is the has an Intel Bay Trail-M chip clocked at 2.16GHz, with 4GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD, and an integrated intel HD graphics card. The screen measures 13.3-inches, and has a resolution of 1366 x 768. The 4GB of RAM is nice, but we’re not entirely sure that every variant of the C300 will come with 4GB of RAM. There’s an education version that should have 4GB of RAM, but the standard, non-edu version might only come with 2GB of RAM. We’re waiting on ASUS to clarify this for us.
The C200 is not actually a 12-inch device, but ASUS has it listed at 12 inches .The screen measures 11.6-inches. The internal storage is only 16GB, but other than that it’s identical to the C300. It’s only listed as having 2GB of RAM, so if the standard version of the C300 comes with 4GB of RAM, that would be another difference. Both of these Chromebooks come with DDR3-LRAM which will reduce heat and be easier on the battery, too.
ASUS is making these Chromebooks available in three colors. They’ll be rolled out in yellow, blue, and red. The price is right, too. They’re expected to launch for less than $300. The C200 should be about $249 and the C300 should be right at $299. These are expected prices. ASUS has announced official pricing yet. There’s also no solid release date, but they should be available online and in retails stores soon. Fast processors, good battery life, portability, and a great price. What more could you ask for?
