The Galaxy S5 Prime is more than a rumor. It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but that’s just a matter of time. Today, we’ve spotted what’s believed to be the S5 Prime with model number SM-G906S in India. It’s a test device, not a retail unit, but it was shipped from South Korea to Dheli Airport in India. This is the reportedly that South Korean variant of the S5 Prime.
The shipping manifest says that the device has a 5.1-inch screen, and that the price is only Rs. 21,245 ($360). That screen size is different than the 5.2-inch screen that has been rumored for the S5 Prime. That price is also significantly lower than we were expecting for a high-end flagship device. Maybe Android Silver is going to keep some of the low-cost Nexus pricing we’re used to seeing? It’s worth pointing out that the last import document we saw like this was for the Moto E. It listed a price of $137 for that smartphone, and actual cost ended up being $129. This may not be the case for the Galaxy S5 Prime, though.
Rumors for the Galaxy S5 Prime give it a 5.2-inch display with a QHD, 2560 x 1440 resolution. It’s supposed to be running on a Snapdragon 805 or Exynos 5430 chipset, depending on which region of the world you’re in. It’s also supposed to have a 16-megapixel rear facing camera, 3GB of RAM, LTE Advanced connectivity, and be running Android 4.4.3 KitKat out of the box. We’re also hearing that there will be 5 different color options when it’s launched. The phone should come in blue, pink, black, white, and gold.
Seeing the S5 Prime show up on a shipping document doesn’t confirm everything for us, but it does confirm (again) that the device exists. Specs and pricing can and probably will change. This information is another piece of the puzzle for us. We’ll continue trying to put together what Google is doing with Android Silver and these new Prime devices from Samsung, HTC, and others.
