Samsung is great at and best known for releasing many, many products per year, instead of the Apple limit of three, the HTC norm of ‘less than double Apple’s number’, and Microsoft/Nokia’s limit of ‘however many Microsoft said we could’. The Galaxy Tab line of Samsung products have been brought into focus in the past few months, with the consumer market preferring a tablet computer over a laptop or a desktop computer, and this news comes as no surprise, except who it comes from. Today, Samsung’s latest Galaxy Tab addition has been let loose on the Internet, but by a very unlikely source: the FCC itself. The FCC rarely gives anyone outside of itself the chance to see devices pre-announcement and pre-authorization, so this is a real treat.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is the subject of today’s leak, and this is quite a sizable taste of this upcoming, yet-to-be-announced tablet. The device will reportedly have a 2,560 by 1,600 pixel display, showing Samsung’s Touchwiz overlay on top of Android version 4.4.2, Kit Kat, also carrying Samsung’s magazine-like interface for tablets. That screen will purportedly be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 5 octa processor. With 2MP front- and 8MP back-facing cameras accompanied by a LED flash, what’s new about this tablet that’s worth noting, past the screen, Android version, and processor? Well, aesthetically, there is the use of Samsung’s new back-plating, used most notably on the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy K Zoom smartphones earlier this year.
The version shown by the FCC is reported to be a Wi-Fi only version (model SM-T800), with an LTE (SM-T805) and 3G (SM-T801) also within the workings. The FCC reports give a pretty clear idea of some of the other details about the device as well. The Galaxy Tab S will, according to the FCC filing, have Bluetooth 4.0 (Low-Energy), Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac connectivity, GPS, and that Exynos 5 octa process mentioned above. That processor is the Exynos 5420, most likely running a pair of 1.9 and 1.3 Ghz quad-core processors, with a 32-bit architecture inside.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 will likely be announced sometime this Summer and have a price tag to match some of Samsung’s newer tablets, but price speculation will come later as the announcement of this tablet approaches and looms ever closer.
