Moto 360 Contest Hints at $249 Price Tag

Motorola has just kicked off a new contest for their new smartwatch, the Moto 360. They are basically asking for watchfaces from designers for the new smartwatch. Which basically means that the launch is imminent. Motorola is giving away a Moto 360 to the winner with the best watch face as well. But that’s not really what this story is about. If you dig into the official rules document (link can be found in the sources below), you’ll notice the ARV  (average retail value) for a Moto 360 is $249. Which all but confirms the pricing of the Moto 360 to be $249, instead of $300 or higher, which many of us had feared it might be.

Oh, and that’s not all. The contest ends on June 24th. Why is that significant? Well Google I/O starts on June 25th. So take that as you will. We could definitely be reading to much into this, but we might see the winner receive his or her Moto 360 during Google I/O which would be pretty cool. It’d also be cool to see both the Moto 360 and the LG G Watch announced and launched at Google I/O as I know a lot of people – myself included – are really interested in these two smartwatches.

The Moto 360 has plenty of us excited because of how good it looks. As you can see from the image above, it looks pretty good. Not to mention the videos of Android Wear we’ve already seen from Google. Android Wear is definitely looking like it’s going to be an interesting OS from Google, and one that’s based off of Google Now, which I think we can all get behind. How many of you are going to develop some watch faces for the Moto 360? How many of you are going to buy a Moto 360 when it finally becomes available? Let us know in the comments below.
