Last week we saw in the changelog for Android 4.4.3 there were mentions of a Nexus tablet from HTC, as well as a Set-top box from Google. Now we’re hearing from a Dutch website that the Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 names are confirmed. It appears that the Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 names have appeared in the Chromium issue tracker. Which the Nexus 8 we already pretty much knew about, and will likely be announced at Google I/O next month or shortly after. The Nexus 8 is supposedly going to be a 8.9-inch HTC-made tablet. Which is something a lot of us have been waiting on for quite some time. But what’s new here is the Nexus 6 name. I figured they may go to a new naming scheme soon since we’ll be close to having the same name for Nexus smartphones and tablets. But looks like they are sticking to that naming scheme. Now this doesn’t mean we’ll have a 6-inch smartphone from Google. In fact, no specs have been specified just yet.
The Nexus 6 will probably be around the same specs as what we had with the Nexus 5. Perhaps a bump up to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 3GB of RAM, but I don’t see the size of the device changing all that much. We also have no idea who exactly is making the Nexus 6. There’s been rumors of it being LG once again, which is quite possible. Or it could be HTC making both the tablet and the smartphone. We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
