Samsung has been trying to get their hands in everything as of late. A few weeks ago we heard about Samsung getting readying to compete with Google Glass with their own Gear Glass. Earlier this year Samsung also got their hands in the music streaming service with their own MILK music application. Now it appears that Samsung is trying to get into the video-streaming industry, as today they have announced “Project Glued”.
Project Glued is a rental service for TV Shows. Users can rent a season of their favorite TV Show for just $6.50, which is a pretty good price. The average price of one season of a TV show on the iTunes store is $39.99-49.99, depending on the show. The same price range can be found in the Google Play Store. With Samsung’s Project Glued, users will get all episodes in full HD, streamed right to their device, or users can choose to download them right to their device, for watching on the go. To get users a little more interested in signing up, Samsung is giving users the first episode of every season of its TV show at no cost. Users will also be able to give 6 friends one-day free access to a full season of a TV show. Project Glued will be available for users to download from the Samsung app store, Google Play ,and eventually right on a Samsung Smart TV!
This to me, sounds like a great deal! However, it seems like it will be launching later this year in Singapore and the Philippines first. There doesn’t seem to be a timeframe for a global launch for Project Glued. We haven’t really seen a strong launch push for Samsung recent apps in the past, like Milk Music, which is still only available in the US. Hopefully Project Glued will make it’s way to every part of the world. Stay tuned!
