The new Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets are about the worst kept secret out there – Samsung seems to want it that way – with recent firmware for one of its variants going online before the June 12 launch date, we now know a couple new facts about the Super AMOLED screened tablets. Our good friends over at SamMobile went through the firmware listing to see what they could discover about these new beauties.
From what was discovered we now can confirm that the Galaxy Tab S series will come with a built-in fingerprint scanner, similar to what we saw on the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone released in April. Our source had confirmed earlier this month that there would be a fingerprint scanner, but with the firmware release, we can see pictures of exactly how it works, further confirming that it will indeed sport this feature.
Another great feature they discovered was that these new Galaxy Tab S tablets would also carry the new Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM), also introduced on the new Galaxy S5 smartphone and it is a great idea to carry this feature over to their newest tablet line. The UPSM extends battery life by allowing you to turn off non-essential features, such as turning off the color output on the screen, while still being able to work and receive texts or emails.
It is only a couple more weeks before we find out more details about this new Galaxy Tab S line of tablets. We do know there will be a 10.5-inch and an 8.5-inch as well. The 10.5-inch will sport a Super AMOLED display with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution. The processor is thought to be a Samsung Exynos octa-core 5420 chip, with four 1.9GHz Cortex A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex A7 cores. There should be an 8MP main camera and a 2.1MP front-facing camera for video chatting and taking a selfie. It will have Bluetooth 4.0 LE support and Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n/ac, as well as a LTE variant. It will be running Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box.
