Samsung Looks to take on Google with Samsung Gear Glass Supporting Tizen OS

Google Glass has been around for quite some time now. Although it is not yet available to the general public, it is available to developers and anyone who has joined the Explorer program.  The Explorer program let’s those who are interested try Google Glass for a price of $1,500! Google Glass brings you the ability of bringing all of your important information right in front of your eyes. Things like directions, when you need to figure out where to go, or what your results are for the morning run you’re doing.  Google Glass is expected to be available to the public by the end of this year. Wearables have been a big interest to many companies out there, but we thought that Google would be the only player in the Glass arena, however looks like they are going to have some company!

Today we have gotten our hands on information that Samsung is designing what they are calling Samsung Gear Glass. Samsung Gear Glass looks to be a ear piece with a heads up display, that looks kind of like a bluetooth device.   According to a Samsung Associate, after Samsung launched its first smartwatch, they secured a considerable amount of smart glass-related technology and patents” No word on exact functionality of the device, but I am pretty certain in will be in the same lines of Google Glass. Bringing information to you right in front of your eye. Now what we do know is that the Samsung Gear Glass will be rocking Samsung’s Tizen OS, which is available on the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, Galaxy Gear Fit, and the Galaxy Gear 2.  Tizen OS is another open source operating system, just like Android OS is. We know that Samsung has been itching to get Tizen out to the public, with giving glimpses of it in the new UI of the Samsung Galaxy S5.  The Galaxy Gear Glass, will give Samsung another stage to present it on!

Samsung is rumored to be introducing the device to the mass public in September during IFA 2014, which will take place in Berlin Germany between the 5th and 10th day of the month.  This seems a bit early to me, unless Samsung has actually been working on the device for awhile now. This would make sense, since Samsung last October filed a patient for a glass wearable. If all goes as the rumors suggest, Samsung Gear Glass will be available in September of this year.  We will have to wait to see how this all folds out. Would you be interested in Samsung Gear Glass?
