Following on from the colorful announcement of the Galaxy S5 in Pink, NTT DoCoMo is getting another new device for their newest line, this time it’s from Sony and should be familiar to anyone who’s lusted over the Xperia Z1 Compact before. This new Xperia A2 is what you could call a “refresh” of the Xperia Z1 Compact, it features much the same internals, but has a slightly new look to it, which for the Japanese essentially means more color. Here in the West Motorola and Samsung seem to be the only companies that care about color, with Motorola of course taking it to another level with the Moto Maker. In Japan however, colorful smartphones are easy to come by and the Xperia A2 is no different.
Sony’s latest compact – not mini, remember – will be launching in White, Orange, Lavender and Grey Black. All nice colors indeed, but what’s on the inside is also still quite impressive as it features a Snapdragon 800, 2GB of RAM, that impressive 20.7-megapixel camera, 16GB of storage and a microSD card slot. All of this is packed into a device with a 4.3-inch 720p display that measures just 65 — 128 — 9.7 mm. As we’ve come to expect from Sony, the Xperia A2 is waterproof as well as dustproof, making the A2 a decent device for a humid and rainy country like Japan. The color on these devices wraps all the way around the side of the device and they look pretty nice to me. My favorite is the orange, what about you guys?
The SO-04F as it’s known will be available to our Japanese readers throughout June 2014 and pre-orders are open right now. We’re sure that a lot of our American readers are jealous of all these colorful smartphones, but don’t forget with the Moto Maker you can create whatever Moto X you want and Nexus 5 owners have recently gotten the chance to add a little more color to their devices as well. There’s more shots in the gallery below, after the short teaser from Sony.
