During the Google I/O keynote, Google talked about Android Auto. Which is where Android gets integrated into your car. Google actually announced the Open Auto Alliance back at CES in January, and now we have about 40 new partners in the Open Auto Alliance. This includes LG, NVIDIA, Panasonic, Parrot, Delphi, Cloudcar, Clarion, Subaru, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Chevrolet, GM, Audi, Acura, and plenty of others. We already knew that Audi, Honda, Hyundai, NVIDIA and a few others were on board, but it’s great to see that many others have also joined the Open Auto Alliance. Now let’s just hope it works out better than the Open Handset Alliance has.
Android Auto is a pretty amazing experience so far. We’ve got Google Maps included which you can use without typing anything or taking your hands off the steering wheel. Not to mention Google Play Music is also built in, although it looks like only streaming for now. I’m sure that will change really soon.
It’s great to see Android Auto, and it should be available later this year in select cars. It will also be integrated into the Android ‘L’ release when that releases this fall.
