The Taiwanese Computer Manufacturer Asus has already confirmed a few months back that they are working on a smartwatch slated for a release later this year. Google I/O was yesterday and only three smart watches were unveiled, the fourth which would have been the Asus smartwatch was no where to be found. There’s a reason for that and an according to an anonymous source that spoke with TechCrunch, the Asus smartwatch is still under development and will release sometime around September.
Word from the anonymous source indicated that the smartwatch will be low budget, only costing between $99 to $149. That’s way cheaper than the LG G Watch that has a starting price of $229 or Samsung Gear Live that cost $200. In addition to the low price, the source also said that the reason why Asus chose for a later release was because they did not want to rush to meet the Google I/O deadline. Asus is not the only company that got hit in the head with the Google I/O deadline, LG admitted in their press conference yesterday that the reason why the G watch did not include a heart rate monitor was because of Google’s order to have the smartwatch ready by the Android Wear Launch.
Compared to the other smartwatches that have been unveiled to the world yesterday at Google I/O, a budget watch sounds a bit promising. Pricing is a major factor due to a lot of people who wish to not spend tons of money on a device. With confirmation of the Asus smartwatch, many people may wait for this cost efficient device to hit stores so they can experience a little bit of what Google has to offer. As of right now there isn’t too much detail on the Asus smartwatch other than that it may have gesture controls to make up for the small screen. No word on any other features as of yet but when the news begins to roll out we’ll be right here waiting to deliver it to you. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, will you wait for the Asus smartwatch to release?
