Gear VR Could become Samsung's Virtual Reality Headset

We know that Samsung has been trying to get their hands into every market that they possibly can. About a month ago we heard that they were working on a Google Glass like concept, called Samsung Gear Glass. They will also be getting into the health and fitness wearables with Simband. Now it looks like Samsung will also be getting into the Virtual Reality market with what is rumored to be called Gear VR! In which case, Samsung is expanding the Gear branding, from more than just smart watches.

Samsung filed a patient application with US Patent and Trademark Office on June 12th for the trademarking of Gear VR. According to the rumors, Samsung is in talks with Oculus VR, the folks who have made Oculus Rift, about making a virtual reality headset that will had an OLED display on its smartphones and tablets. Now if you read the Trademark application ( aren’t they so fun to read) you won’t get too much information out of them. The device is supposed to work with your smartphone, with the user being able to slide a device into a slot on the Gear VR, activating the camera on the phone and turning it into an augmented reality camera. Also if you read the application you will see things like surround sound and 3D eyeglasses, which makes me think they will be putting some good audio devices the Gear VR as well. Now there is no word on when we would see this device hit the markets, but sources have told us we could see it debut with the Galaxy Note 4 later this year. However, I don’t think this is very accurate, as this is a complex project and it probably needs a lot of time to develop, so I don’t think we will be seeing it anytime this year.  Feel free to checkout the Trademark filing yourself, in the source links below!
