Google is one great company, with an even greater sense of humor. If you don’t believe us, check out some of the Easter eggs they’ve stuffed into Search and Google Now. The second day of the annual Mecca for developers is currently ongoing at San Francisco, however we are still reeling from the information overload of day one. We saw Google expand its presence right into wearables with Android Wear based offerings from Samsung and LG, our living rooms with Android TV, into cars with Google Auto and the much awaited Android ‘L’ Developer Preview.
It was during the Android ‘L’ Developer Preview that something caught our eye. Refer to the image at the top of this article and you would find a tablet device which us nothing like the Nexus 7 that we know so well. Instead we see a tablet which is broader and offers a larger screen size – possibly 8.9 inches. Also present is the front facing speaker, which is present on the older Nexus 10, however that device is out of circulation and this render does not look anything like the Samsung made Nexus 10. On the contrary, the front facing speaker seems more in tune with HTC’s BoomSound speakers of the HTC One (M7) and HTC One (M8). If we compare this render to the current gen Nexus 7, just to settle the matter once-and-for-all, the position of the camera in the render is centered on the left bezel, while on the Nexus 7 the front-facing camera is not centered, but positioned more to the right. Also the Nexus 7 lacks front facing speakers and then there is the size. All in all, we can establish that this is not the Nexus 7.
Then could this be the much rumored Google Nexus 9 which is rumored to have been designed by HTC? Though we speculate, it seems more appropriate that this render is the HTC made Nexus 9 tablet, however we would advise you to take this news with a pinch of salt. After all, Google has been known to troll its fan-base in the past well.
