This morning, Motorola Germany followed in HTC’s footsteps in saying that they will also be upgrading their “flagship” devices to Android L. I put “flagship” in quotes because the Moto G isn’t technically a flagship, but for Motorola it’s their flagship mid-range device. Now Motorola’s devices already run basically stock Android so it shouldn’t take them long to get Android L going on their lineup of devices, but still nice to see that Motorola says it’ll be available this fall alongside the Nexus and other devices. So far we know that Android L is coming to the Moto X, Moto G, HTC One M8, and the HTC One M7. I’m sure we’ll hear more from other OEMs as we get closer to the fall when code is actually available to the OEMs to update their devices. But still great to see Motorola and HTC jumping on the Android L train so early. Now all we need is for Android L to drop in the fall and see every flagship get updated within a week of dropping the update for Nexus devices. Of course, that’d be in a perfect world. So not sure that’ll happen, but I can certainly hope, right? The Moto X is about to get replaced soon by the Moto X+1. But seeing as it’s going to be getting Android L in the fall, it looks like Motorola hasn’t forgotten about the Moto X. Which is great. All too often do we see OEMs releasing a new flagship and neglecting it’s predecessor. And that’s beginning to change with many of the OEMs which is something I like to see. How many of you own the Moto X or the Moto G and are excited to get Android L onto your smartphone this fall? Let us know in the comments below.
