Nest is a great company that has produced amazing connected thermostats that allows you to control the temperature of your house with your smartphone. Nest introduced its own connected smoke alarm called Protect. Protect was supposed to make your home safer and smarter by making it easier to inform you of fire hazard or CO danger in your house. However, about a month ago the folks over at Nest took their smoke alarm system Protect off the market.
Protect has a feature in it that allows users to wave at the device when the device alerts you of possible smoke in the room, which is coming from the cake you tried to make for your wife but burned it. When you waved at the device Protect realizes that everything is under control. However, back in April Nest realized that this feature was malfunctioning and turning itself off unintentionally, which could be very dangerous! This cause Nest to halt sales of the device, and just last month the company decided to recall all of the devices that were on the market, after realizing a fix couldn’t be issued over the air.
Looks like the folks over at Nest have solved the issues, as the company is bringing the device back onto the market, at an even lower cost of only $99! The device originally sold for $119. This will make the device available to more customers who might have been pushed away due to the price of the original device. Protect will be missing the wave feature that cause the original recall. A spokeperson told the folks over at TechChrunch that the company is “still looking into a solution” for the wave feature. I really hope this works out for Nest, as the device has a great concept to it! Will you be buying Nest Protect? Let us know in the comment section below!
