This week might be the week we get to see all sorts of new Android features and a whole new look in Android L, but that doesn’t mean information surrounding upcoming devices from the likes of Samsung has stopped flowing. As we reported yesterday, it sounds like the Galaxy Note 4 is ready to go into mass production, but there’s still some confusion as to just what the device is going to be packing when it hits shelves this Fall. Of course, we’ll know everything there is to know about the Galaxy Note 4 when Samsung announce their latest and greatest during IFA in September, but for now, another rumor has surfaced from the Far East.
According to ETNews, the Galaxy Note 4 could make use of a 12-megapixel OIS (optical image stabilisation) camera as oppose to the 16-megapixel found in the Galaxy S5 or the 20-megapixel shooter that we’ve been hearing about before now. According to sources, this 12-megapixel camera module has already been sourced and ready to be put into mass production. Why might Samsung be going to a 12-megapixel camera? Well, the rumor goes that Samsung is looking to keep the Galaxy Note 4 as thin as possible, such a camera module would of course keep the device nice and thin, but I personally can’t see this happening. After all, why would Samsung release the Galaxy Note 4 with an inferior camera compared to the Galaxy S5?
While there’s also word of the Note 4 shipping with a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera, this is one rumor that we can’t see coming to fruition. Sure, the image stabilisation will result in a faster shooting experience and less blurry images, but consumers rarely care about those sort of features. The question asked by the average consumer – who are Samsung’s main customers – is “how many megapixels has it got?”
Samsung has built their success through marketing, and marketing a device that will surely cost more than the Galaxy S5 with an inferior camera doesn’t seem something Samsung would do. Besides, the Galaxy Note line has become a show of the absolute best Samsung has to offer, so why hold themselves back?
