The latest flagship from LG’s stables is definitely going to follow the trend of bringing along its ‘mini me’ version. The news is confirmed in a leaked manual which belongs to an LG handset which goes by the nomenclature – LG G3 S – and has a model number LG-D722v. Earlier we had caught a whiff of the LG G3 mini when it had passed through the FCC bearing the model number LG-D722, however the official name of the model was a big unknown at that point. Thanks to this leaked official manual, we do know that the LG G3 Mini will indeed be called the LG G3 S, albeit in European markets. If the model number speaks the truth, this variant – the D722v – is primarily designed for Vodafone in Europe and as such will not provide dual SIM capabilities.
In terms of specifications, and being the younger sibling of the LG G3, the LG G3 S will not sport very high-end or premium specs. The device will sport a 5 inch IPS LCD display with a reasonable 720p HD resolution. Processing requirements will be catered to by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz with a sufficient 2 GB of RAM while on board memory is limited to 16 GB, which is not unexpected for a medium tier handset. Photography needs will be handled by an 8 mega pixels (MP) primary camera which also has optical image stabilization, while the occasional selfie and video calls will be handled by the front facing 2 MP snapper. The device will be powered by a 2540 mAh battery and will be preloaded with Google’s Android 4.4 Kit Kat OS, layered over by LG’s own UX. It is also expected that the LG G3 S will bring along most, if not all, of the software goodies offered by the older sibling, the LG G3 – including the ability to snap a selfie using gestures.
The LG G3 Mini would probably have different names in different markets, given that it is being called the LG G3 Beat (D728 & D729) in China. The device is expected to retail globally with an AT&T variant (D725) being expected for the US. However, pricing information as of yet is unavailable. We would definitely keep you posted, in the meantime, do let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
